Apparatus for measuring the temperature within a rotating member has within the rotating member a resonance circuit with a temperature sensitive capacitor and a coil. The coil rotates passed a fixed coil to be transiently inductively coupled thereto. Control means provides a series of square wave pulses to the fixed coil so that the resonance circuit is energised when the coils are close together and a pulse is supplied. In response to the detection by the fixed coil of consequent oscillations within the resonance circuit, whilst the coils remain inductively coupled after the transference of energy therebetween, and before the supply of the next energisation pulse, the control means determines the duration of a predetermined number of the oscillations of the resonance circuit. This duration corresponds to the frequency of the oscillations, and hence represents the temperature of the variable capacitor of the resonance circuit. The control means may include a microprocessor. |
