<p>PURPOSE:To realize a picture communication system offering excellent picture quality even for the CBR coding communication with respect to the ATM communication system for a picture signal. CONSTITUTION:In the picture signal communication system comprising a network 10 for ATM communication, a network terminator 20 connected to the network 10, and a picture communication equipment 30 connected to the network 10 via the network terminator 20, when the picture communication equipment 30 starts the picture communication, a band operating state monitor section 40 provided to the network 10 monitors the band operating state of a subscriber' s network to which a call is sent or from which a call is received and a transmission band setting section 50 sets the transmission speed class used by the picture communication equipment 30 depending on the band operating state and the transmission speed class setting information is informed to the picture communication equipment 30 and the picture communication equipment 30, which communicates the picture signal according to the transmission speed class.</p> |
