摘要 PURPOSE:To carry out high precise judgement by judging printing quality mechanically and objectively by a method wherein dispersion on a dot area is calculated based on a specific calculation formula from an average value and a standard deviation of a printing area of a specific number of dots. CONSTITUTION:A video camera 1 is applied onto a printing pattern 1, and image processing of printing of each dot is performed. When, for instance, printing of 20 dots is stored in a memory 4, a CPU 3 reads a numerical data expressing a darkness level of each dot from the memory 4, and calculates a printing area of each dot. An average value of the printing area of 20 dots and a standard deviation of the printing area of 20 dots are calculated from the sum total of the area. Thereafter, for example, the obtained standard deviation is divided by the average value and is multiplied by 100 to calculate an index of picture quality expressed dispersion of the dot printing area. The less this index of picture quality is, in other words, the nearer value to zero it is, the less variation in the printing area of each dot is. That is, the printing quality can be judged to be good, and the judgement is displayed on a display 5.
