PURPOSE:To light other lamps such as an incandescent lamp having a socket section with the same specification as that of a discharge lamp in the lighting device of a discharge lamp. CONSTITUTION:A lamp RL is excited from a power source V1 via the first lighting means 1 for lighting a discharge lamp, and the type of the lamp RL is judged by a lamp judging means 3. When the type of the lamp RL is not compatible with the first lighting means 1, it is switched to the second lighting means 2 to light the lamp RL. When another type of lamp such as an incandescent lamp with a common socket is connected in place of the discharge lamp lighted by the first lighting means 1, the type of the lamp RL is judged by the lamp judging means 3, and the lamp RL can be normally lighted by the second lighting means 2. |
