The invention discloses a refractory alloy electrode characterized in that the refractory alloy is a heavily alloyed refractory alloy comprising at least 5 % by weight of at least one elment selected from the group consisting of tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, cobalt and vanadium. Said electrode may be used to produce an electrical discharge between two electrodes immersed in a discharge liquid as in the case of pressure wave generating devices.
