A device for thawing deep-frozen living cells in test-tube-like containers using a flow of warm water consists of a standing pipe (3) into which the test-tubes (19) are placed, a temp. controlled water tank and a time-controlled pump (2) for pumping the water through the standing pipe. This invention proposes that the standing pipe (3) should be at a higher elevation than the tank. The pipe is connected at its lower end to the delivery side of the pump and is provided with an overflow at its upper end. The pipe (3,4) is wholly or partly removable, and has a filter (7) at its lower end. An element (20) is provided for removing items from the pipe, and consists of lower filter plate connected to a rod which extends upwards out of the pipe (3). The pump (2) has a reversible drive, and a drain point with a controllable valve is provided between the pump and the lower end of the standing pipe. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for thawing deep-frozen cells, and especially animal sperm. The test-tubes containing the cells are completely removed from the warm water flow after the required thawing time, and test-tube-like containers of different dimensions can be handled without loss of precision of the operation.
