PURPOSE:To improve the engine driving and provide a good cooling capacity of the air conditioner by discriminating a transmission gear position and loading condition of the engine which is used for driving the vehicle and also the compressor of the air conditioner and controlling intermittently the operation of the compressor in accordance with the discriminated engine conditions. CONSTITUTION:The compressor of the air conditioner for the vehicle is driven by the vehicle driving engine through an electromagnetic clutch 2. A comparison is made between a ratio of a voltage signal Ve from an engine speed detecting circuit 200 with respect to a voltage signal Vs from a vehicle speed detecting circuit 300 and a preset value, and based on this comparison it is discriminated whether the transmission gear is in a top position or in a low position. When the transmission gear is in the low position, if the low load condition of the engine continues only within a predetermined time period, the electromagnetic clutch 2 is opened so as to stop the compressor operation. On the other hand, if the low load condition of the engine continues longer than the predetermined time period, the electromagnetic clutch 2 is connected so as to operate the compressor. |
