A bottle filled with potable material is formed of a body, a cap and a sealing gasket between the body and the cap. The gasket is formed from a thermoplastic composition that is a homogeneous blend of 20 to 60% by weight butyl rubber with 40 to 80% by weight other thermoplastic polymer. The use of such gaskets in packages that include a volatile off-taste prevent the contamination of the potable material, such as a beverage, with the off-taste. The invention is of particular value when the package includes a source of a volatile chlorinated phenol and/or chlorinated anisole, for instance when the package includes wood that has been impregnated with a chlorinated phenol wood preservative. |
