[Also in Division F4] A gas burner arrangement for singeing threads comprises a conical burner sleeve 5 mounted in a housing block 1 and having a slot (6) aligned with a slot (7) in the housing to allow lateral insertion of a thread 8 which passes over stripping rods 15 extending perpendicularly to the axis of the sleeve 5. An air and gas mixture passes through radial bores 13 in sleeve 5 to burn while forming small flames (14). By adjusting the gas supply the flames can be made so small as not to reach the thread 8 which is singed merely by contact with the heated roll 15. |
