PURPOSE:To avert the degradation in printing accuracy, such as step cutting and barrier ribs formed on color filters by providing dummy layers up to the height of the same degree as the height of tall color filters on low color filters, thereby eliminating the steps in the height direction between the color filters of the different heights. CONSTITUTION:The color filters 18 which allow the transmission of light are formed as the substrate provided in the positions corresponding to respective color display elements 10. The substrate is inorg. glass. The filters 18 are formed of the red filters 18R formed by partially coloring the front plate 12 of the substrate by an ion exchange technique. The tall color filters 18 are formed of the thick green filters 18R and the blue filters 18B printed on the front plate 12. The dummy layers 30 are provided up to about the height of the same degree as the height of the tall color filters 18B and 18G are provided on the low color filters 18R. A transparent filter protective layer 28 is provided on the tall color filters 18B, 18G and the dummy layers 30 and a cathode 22 is provided on the filter protective layer 28.
