[Also in Divisions G2 and H4] A pad of a spongy, porous thermoplastic or a pad consisting of a spongy porous thermoplastic layer laminated to a layer of thermoplastic material is urged into contact with a body of a rigid thermoplastic and ultrasonic energy of sufficient frequency and amplitude is applied to a surface of the pad or body for a sufficient period to secure the pad to the body. The pad may be maintained on, or moulded into a predetermined shape and size by the transducer horn while ultrasonic energy is applied. In the preferred embodiment a pad comprising polyurethane foam laminated to a layer of nylon is attached to the lip of a polystyrene film cartridge. |
