PURPOSE:To securely detect the service life of a replacement unit and to perform proper control corresponding to the use state of the replacement unit by reading a full-scale value and a used state value out of the memory of the replacement unit and comparing the both. CONSTITUTION:When the printer main body 103 of the device is energized, a microprocessor 104 reads the full scale value and used state value of the service life of the replacement unit 101 out of the EEPROM 102 and displays them on a display unit 106. When the used state value is larger than the full scale value, a message indicating that replacement is necessary is displayed. Then a printing process is carried out and the unit 101 is switched when necessary by reading printing process data out of the table on a ROM according to the kind, service life, and used state value of the unit 101 or by processing those values and deciding the best printing process. Further, a motor rotation time is added as the operation time of the unit 101 to old data to update the EEPROM data. |
