A device for firing a projectile for de-arming purposes, comprises a barrel (1) for housing a projectile and an explosive charge. A sleeve (2) surrounds the barrel (1), so as to define an annular chamber (3) accomodating solid or liquid recoil absorbing material (8). Radial ports (10) interconnect the barrel (1) and the annular chamber (3) so that when the projectile is fired the annular chamber (3) is pressurised and the recoil absorbing material (8) is expelled rearwardly from the chamber (3), so as to counteract recoil. |
