PURPOSE:To prevent a decrease in the mechanical accuracy of a wire electrode discharge cutting machine, which is liable to occur due to the breaking of wire electrode supporting arm and other structural parts of the machine, and contact between the supporting arm and other structural parts, by detecting contact between the supporting arm, which has a limited area for the movement thereof, and other structural parts. CONSTITUTION:An electrode wire 22, which is adapted to form electric discharge between itself and a work 20, is held on a supporting arm 26 fixed at its one end to a base 24, so that the electrode wire 22 can advance through the work 20. The electrode wire 22 is extended close to the work 20. The supporting arm 26 is provided with a contact sensor, which includes a detecting plate 32. When contact between the supporting arm 26 and other structural parts is detected by the plate 32, an electric discharge cutting operation is stopped. |
