PURPOSE: To sufficiently replace gas without excessively pressurizing the lung of the patient by oscillating artificial respiration air fed to the patient at a frequency which is higher than that of normal respiration of the patient. CONSTITUTION: A signal produced by a signal generator 11 is delivered to an amplifier 18 and a polar converter 22, so as to connect a power source with a linear motor 23. The linear motor 23 drives a piston connected to a diaphragm 24 for converting a mechanical motion into a pressure wave of gas, so as to transmit energy to gas in a tube 25. The tube 25 connects a line 26 and an air column on the second side of the piston to the lung of the patient. During a period of operation of a channel, a bias stream is fed to the line at a rate of about 2 to 20l/min, and gas in a return line is discharged from the lung of the patient at the same rate. Since the oxygen concentration in the line 25 is higher than the oxygen concentration of the gas discharged from the lung of the patient, the oxygen is dispersed in the lung of the patient so as to react with a volume displacement effect caused by bi-directional drive of the linear motor 23 so as to sufficiently replace the gas. |
