PURPOSE:To obtain a data recording medium enhanced in the S/N ratio of reproduction, subjected to high speed recording erasure, susceptible to high density data recording, having long life and capable of being prepared by a simple manufacturing process by providing a recording layer formed from a crystalline alloy changing in phase between an alpha-phase and sigma-phase. CONSTITUTION:A medium has a substrate 1 and the recording layer 2 provided thereon and, for example, the substrate 1 is constituted of glass or an org. resin. The recording layer 2 constituted of a material changing in phase between an alpha-phase and sigma-phase. As an alloy capable of generating this phase change, there is a crystalline alloy containing at least one element selected from Cr, Mn, V, Ni, Si and Cu and substantially composed of the reminder of Fe. This alloy is inexpensive and an inexpensive data recording medium can be obtained by using said alloy as the recording layer. |
