The shaft sealing ring has a sealing lip (6) of an elastomer which is pressed resiliently against a finely-worked surface (8). The sealing lip has in the contact area (b) with this surface (8) an increased roughness compared to the rest of the lip which is made in a moulding tool with polished moulding faces in the conventional way. The roughness of the sealing lip in the contact area preferably amounts to about 0.2 mu is less than Ra is equal or less than 0.8 mu. USE/ADVANTAGE - A good sealing action is achieved over a long service life.
