PREPARATION OF RAW MATERIAL BAR FOR PRODUCING SINGLE CRYSTAL OF OXIDE SUPERCONDUCTOR

PURPOSE:To eliminate fine pores in the subject raw material bar to provide the bar not causing troubles in conventional techniques by melting and solidifying a raw material for the bar sintered in the bar-like shape by the floating zone method. CONSTITUTION:When a raw material bar employed on the production of an oxide superconductor single crystal by the floating zone method, a raw material for the raw material bar sintered in a bar-like shape is melted and solidified. Since fine pores in the raw material bar are substantially eliminated, troubles such as the penetration of the melted liquid into the raw material bar and the contamination of a gas in the pores into the melted liquid to the penetration of the gas into the single crystal are not caused. Such the raw material permits to feed the raw material bar at a very slow rate and to produce the good single crystal. The preparation method can be applied not only to the raw material bar employed on the growth of a Bi oxide oxide superconductor single crystal but also to raw material bars employed on the growth of other single crystals.
