Pyridoneazo dyes of formula (I) are new: in which L = 2-or 3-C alkylene, R = 1-3C alkyl and n = 1, 2 or 3. (I) are prepd. by diazotising an amine of formula (II) and coupling the resulting diazo cpd. with a 2-hydroxypyrid-6-one cpd. of formula (III).
