In weightless or min gravity conditions, esp. in a space laboratory, a liq. solvent contg. dissolved organic or inorganic cpds. has these crustallised out while the liq. is freely suspended asa ball. Progressive removal of solvent to cause crystallisation is effected by any known method, e.g.by a vacuum pump ot by admixture with other liq.. The ball of liq. is kept suspended by contact with retaining elements, e.g. screws or strips with curved indents, and accessible from the container exterior. These elements are closer together at the limit of the enclosed space than the dia. of the liq. ball, and are pref. of material incapable or largely so, of being wetted by the solvent.
