PURPOSE:To secure a proper gap between printing paper and a printing head even when the respective parts of a printing mechanism are thermally expanded and contracted by detecting the temp. of the printing mechanism moving a carriage in the direction approaching and separating with respect to a platen and correcting the stop position of the carriage on the basis of the detected temp. CONSTITUTION:When printing operation is started, a CPU counts the number of printed characters and, when the number of printing characters reaches a definite number, the temp. of a printing head 8 is detected by a temp. sensor 29. The present position (the value of the number NB1 of drive pulses) of a carriage 1 related to the temp. (t) detected previously and the position (the value of the number NB2 of drive pulses) of the carriage 1 related to the temp. detected this time are respectively read from an ROM 25 and compared each other. When the value of the number NB1 of drive pulses is different from the value of the number NB2 of drive pulses, a current is supplied to a stepping motor 12 by the difference between the numbers of drive pulses and the carriage 1 is corrected at the stop position corresponding to the number NB2 of drive pulses. The detected temp. at this time is stored in a RAM 26 and a gap G is corrected to an interval optimum to printing corresponding to the present temp. |
