PURPOSE: To significantly reduce a quantity of Hg that minimizes Zn corrosion by adding an AL salt to a cathode material containing Zn powder in an alkali cathode/electrolyte mixture. CONSTITUTION: A cathode/electrolyte mixture is produced by wet-type and dry-type. In the wet-type method, a dry Zn powder and a powdered Al compound are mixed, an electrolytic solution is added and further mixed, and an amalgam of less than about 7% is formed to a weight of Zn. Finally, gelling agent is added and severely mixed. On the other hand, in the dry-type method, the powdered Zn compound and gelling agent are blended, amd dry-type mixing is done. Then a desired amount of Hg is added and gently stirred, finally an elictrolytic solution is added, and all the mixture is severely stirred. Hg required for minimizing Zn corrosion in an alkali battery is when a sulfate aluminum potassium, for example, exists in a cathode material containing Zn powder by concentration of about 0.10 to 1.0wt.% to a weight of cathode/electrolytic mixture. |
