The reel for winding up cables etc. has two side restrictors aligned perpendicular relative to the turning axis. One restrictor (11) comprises two discs (14,15) which can be adjusted rotationally relative to each other about the turning axis (3). The winding body (49) comprises several pin members (5,6,7) running parallel to the turning axis and displaceable on one of the discs in radial guides (17) running at right angles to the turning axis. On the other disc (15) there are fixedly arranged curved members (19) running inclined to the radial guides (17) and engaged by slide shoes (18) which are fixedly connected to the pin members (5,6,7) so that with relative rotation of the discs the slide shoes slide along on the curved members and hereby radially displace the pin members.
