A flip-up flash unit (5) for a camera (1) has a viewfinder opening (37) for viewing a subject to be photographed when the flash unit is swung to an operative position elevated from the body (3) of the camera. A finder objective lens (43) and a finder eyelens (41) are each swung to individual viewing positions optically aligned with the viewfinder opening (37), responsive to movement of the flash unit (5) to its operative position. The body (3) of the camera (1), therefore, can be made more compact because the need for a viewfinder opening and finder lenses built into the body is eliminated. <IMAGE>
