PURPOSE:To enable fast processing by providing a tertiary optical nonlinear medium and a means which makes two light signals whose coincidence/noncoincidence state is to be decided incident on the optical nonlinear medium after the signals are matched by bit synchronization. CONSTITUTION:Binary optical frequency modulation is imposed upon the two signals 1 and 2 whose coincidence/noncoincidence state is to be decided between different optical frequencies f1 and f2 (f2>f1). The light signals 1 and 2 are mixed by an optical mixer 3 structured by connecting optical fibers by fusion splicing in a time-synchronized state and integrated to a semiconductor laser optical amplifier 5 which is driven by a DC power source 4. The output of the amplifier 5 is coupled with a variable wavelength filter 7 through an optical isolator 6 installed so as to remove the influence of reflected light. The filter 7 amplifies light having only one wavelength selectively with a selection width of several GHz under bias conditions below an oscillation threshold value and a current is injected into an active area to control the gain. A power source 8 drives the active area and a power source 9 drives a phase control area to control the selected wavelength and gain; and only an optical frequency component of f3=2f2-f1 or f4=2f1-f2 is amplified selectively to obtain a light output 10. |
