PURPOSE:To prevent degradation in the optical characteristic of an optical disk and to prolong a period, during which the optical disk can be used, by stopping the irradiation of a laser beam in the standby state of an optical disk device. CONSTITUTION:To the presence and absence of requirement for reproducing information from an interface circuit 6, a drive control circuit 9 receives information concerning the passage of time after the end of the information reproducing requirement from a timer circuit 10 and exchanges control signals with a laser driving circuit 2, signal processing circuit 4, spindle motor control circuit 5. After the standby state is started for reproducing the information under the control of this drive control circuit 9, the irradiation of the laser beam is stopped after the lapse of fixed time. Thus, when it is not necessary to reproduce the information, the irradiation of the laser beam is stopped and the information recording characteristic is prevented from being degraded by the concentration of the laser beam to one track. Then, the period to use the optical disk can be prolonged. |
