A protecting mounting for a low pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp (4) has a mounting carrier (1), a mounting insert (3) held thereon, a protective tube (12) surrounding the lamp (4) and spaced apart from it, and a ring (9) which grips the tube (12). The space between the tube (12) and the lamp (4), the mounting carrier (1), and a washer (11) between the ring (9) and the tube (12) are sealed in. The ring (9) is held by a nut (6). The space between the tube (12) and the lamp (4) is empty and the ring (9) gripping the tube (12) is made of metal. ADVANTAGE - Reduces temp. generated and prevents excessive over treating of protective tube and rest of mounting.
