PURPOSE:To obtain uniform brightness distribution with high brightness by lighting a discharge lamp with a DC current. CONSTITUTION:When a bulb 1 constituted of phosphors 2, a reflecting film 3, electrodes 4 and a slit 5 is lighted with a DC current, the maximum brightness is higher by 10% or above than that of the bulb 1 lighted with an AC current in the area where the current is limited to the amount which normally causes no heating problem. No cataphoresis phenomenon occurs even when the bulb 1 is lighted for a long period. Uniform brightness distribution is obtained with high brightness. The lamp voltage is somewhat increased, but the lamp voltage of a discharge lamp is low, thus there is no danger in handling the lamp. |
