The present invention relates to a data communication management system associated with a node of a network comprising a board 10 carrying a microprocessor and a communication controller 2; separate packages 20 each comprising a connector 25, and associated physical interface circuits 24; and a link 30 comprising a transmit line and a receive line between each package and the board, and associated with multiplexer and demultiplexer means on the board and on the package for transmitting and receiving over this link, in multiplexed form and in bursts, the signals travelling between the communication controller and the physical interfaces. <IMAGE>
