<p>A mixt. of (a) 50-90 pts. vol. of a triglyceride in which the fatty acid contains 9-22C and consists only of a hydrocarbon skeleton and the COOH gp. and in which 45 moles % of the fatty acids has a C=Cbond, and (b) 50-10 pts. vol. of a 2-24C hydrocarbon of formula where R1, R2 and R3 are H or alkyl and R4 is H, (cyclo)alkyl or (alk) aryl, is treated with (c) 7.5-25 wt.% of S or S2Cl2; the mixt. with S is heated for between 20 mins. and 10 hours at 330-445 degrees F the mixt. with S2Cl2 is heated for between 20 mins. and 10 hours at 180-280 degrees F; in both cases, as gas is then blown through the mixt. at 125-250 degrees F for is not 30 mins. The prod. is an easily available substitute for sulphurised sperm oil, or use, e.g. as a lubricant additive and an automatic fluid. These sulphurised oils are compatible with paraffin lubricants.</p> |
