A belt conveyor has a continuous conveyor belt 5, which has a bottom section 6 having a central bulge 7 on its underside. The bulge has a groove 10 in its lower side for receiving a supporting cable 11 at least over the majority of the goods-transporting stretch of the conveyor. A plurality of cable sheaves 12 are arranged beneath the supporting cable to offer direct support to the supporting cable. Guide members 18,19 which engage with the belt are arranged along the goods-transporting stretch to prevent the belt from tipping off the supporting cable. <IMAGE> |
