System in which the dazzling from motor vehicle headlights is controlled electronically by means of a special camera in such a way that only the space above the light sources of oncoming motor vehicles remains excluded from the illumination. The light-sensitive layer of the camera and a disc which is projected forwards by the headlight are divided up into vertical strips which are assigned to one another. Small panels which are located one next to the other in vertical fashion form with their narrow sides the light-sensitive layer of the camera and contain the required circuits. A direct current control controls the displaceable transparency threshold of strip-shaped optoelectrical cells on the projection disc so that above each light source in the region of the headlights a rectangular shadow whose width and height are controlled is produced. The light of the headlight which is not utilised for projection forms the far side parts of the region of illumination of the headlights. Projection disc and lamp can be replaced by a projected light source which is divided up into corresponding strips. If required, the light source can be switched off in rapid succession for imperceptibly short times whilst the camera receives the control signals.
