The device (10) has a coupling (12), connected to a towing vehicle, having a coupling bolt (28), on which the shaft (34) of a trailer engages. The coupling bolt (28) penetrates an upper fork claw (20) and a lower fork claw (22) of the coupling (12). For determining the shaft forces acting on the coupling (12), a tension/compression force transmitter in the form of at least one strain gauge (52, 60) is fastened on the fork claw (20). Deformations of the upper fork claw (20) caused by shaft forces are detected by the tension/compression force transmitter and used as a signal for controlling the braking system of the vehicle train. <IMAGE> |
