PURPOSE:To achieve prevention of ink in a nozzle from solidifying by a method wherein a pumping mechanism replacing ink in an ink jet head which is, in a moisture retentive manner reserved by a capping mechanism by ink in an ink tank is provided. CONSTITUTION:In pumping operation a valve 6 of a cap 1 and a valve 17 of a feed path 16 are opened, a valve 15 of an ink feed path 14 is closed, and a pump 18 is operated. Ink is excessively supplied to an ink jet head 11 in which ink is, in a moisture retentive manner, reserved by a copping mechanism from the ink feed path 16, and the ink existing in the ink jet head 11, in moisture retentive reservation, is discharged to an ink receiver 5 from a nozzle 19 of the ink jet head 11 to be replaced. Thereafter, the pump 18 is stopped, the valve 17 is closed, a one way valve 15 is opened, the cap 1 is separated from a surface 7 of a nozzle protective plate, and printing operation is started while the ink in the ink tank 13 is being discharged from the nozzle 19 of the ink jet head 11. |
