PURPOSE:To provide a chalcogenide glass fiber having excellent heat resistance and reduced transmission loss by constructing both of a core glass and clad glass having low refractive index from a chalcogenide glass containing tellurium. CONSTITUTION:A core glass consisting of a chalcogenide glass containing tellurium is combined with a clad glass having refractive index lower than that of the core glass and consisting of a chalcogenide glass containing tellurium to produce the chalcogenide glass fiber. The core glass is preferably composed of three elements of germanium, selenium and tellurium and has a composition consisting of 5-30at.% Ge, 10-45at.% As, 8-40at.% Se and 15-45at.% Te. The clad glass is composed of four elements of Ge, As, Se and Te and has a composition consisting of 5-30at.% Ge, 10-45at.% As, 8-40at.% Se and 15-45at.% Te. |
