Procedure to automatically affix or remove needles from a needle board, for use on a needlefelt machine, by first testing the needle and bore by means of sensors to determine that the alignment is correct, and to align successive needles relative to the first. If at first the needle is not acceptable, it is withdrawn and replaced. The appts. is also claimed. USE - To automatically set all the needles in a new board at the correct angle and distance, with the foot in the precise position, and to with-draw imperfect needles from a used board and replace with new ones at the correct alignment.
