PURPOSE:To preferably clean the desorbed HC by providing the adsorption stuff which carries >=1 kinds of metallic catalyst on a part of monolith carrier coated with zeolite in the upstream side of an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst provided in the exhaust gas system. CONSTITUTION:The exhaust gas cleaning catalyst 6 is provided in the exhaust system, and the adsorption stuff 1 which carries >=1 kinds of metallic catalyst, such as Pt, on a part of monolith carrier coated with zeolite is provided in the upstream side of the catalyst 5. Consequently, as the metallic catalyst carried by the adsorption stuff is heated earlier than the catalyst disposed in the downstream side of the adsorption stuff, HC begins to be desorbed and the catalyst carried by the adsorption stuff is sufficiently activated to clean HC preferably even when the catalyst in the catalyst converter is not activated enough. Moreover, the reaction heat is generated when HC is cleaned by the metallic catalyst, so that the catalyst in the catalyst converter is heated and the activation is promoted. |
