The invention concerns the field of medical equipment and relates to a new arrangement for immobilising the head of a patient in a vertical position, particularly during an ophthalmological examination or treatment, and when the patient is seated. In this arrangement which comprises a base 10, a horizontal crosspiece 1 which carries means 2', 2'' for immobilising the forehead of the patient, means 5, 6 for supporting this crosspiece, means 8 for immobilising the chin of the patient, and means 7 for supporting these means for immobilising the chin, the means supporting the crosspiece comprise a single lateral upright 5 whose upper part supports the crosspiece at one of its ends and whose lower part is connected rigidly to the base. By virtue of the presence of this single lateral upright, the arrangement according to the invention affords the practitioner a greater freedom of movement than do the known arrangements, while at the same time allowing the head of the patient to be immobilised in an effective manner. <IMAGE>
