PURPOSE: To obtain a composition capable of providing a keratin layer of skin with a pyroglutamic acid source by local application to a human skin, by adding an acidic buffer solution permissible as a cosmetic and a cosmetic additive in a specific ratio to a prescribed pyroglutamic acid ester as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION: This composition comprises 0.01-99wt.% of a pyroglutamic acid ester of formula I R is a 1-12C saturated or unsaturated alcohol or a group of formula II [R' and R" are H or a group of formula III ((u) and (v) are each 0 or 1; (w) is 0-21; (x) and (z) are 0-4; (y) is 0-2; u+v+w+x+y+z is 1-22 and, when a partial group CH=CH exists, the number of the total of carbon atoms in the group of formula III is 10-20)] such as methyl pyroglutamate, 1-99.99wt.% of an aqueous buffer having an effective pH2 to <7 permissible as a cosmetic, such as a citric acid-sodium citrate buffer solution having pH4 and 0-98.99wt.% of a cosmetic additive such as lanoline or glycerol and optionally a perfume and an active thickening agent.
