PURPOSE:To prevent delamination of a joint interface in the course of heat cycle process under processing or in practical use by grinding a base plate surface to a specific surface roughness, jointing with porous carbon base material through a specific carbonizing resin adhesive, followed by baking process. CONSTITUTION:The base plate surface of a carbon separator or its preform block is ground to a surface roughness over 10mum Rz and jointed with a porous carbon base material through a carbonizing resin adhesive to which carbonaceous powder of a mean particle size under 70mum is added and kneaded together, and the joint is baked in non-oxidating atmosphere at a temp. exceeding 800 deg.C. This yields a consolidated construction in which the carbon separator base plate and porous carbon electrode base material are bonded firmly at all times. This effectively eliminates delamination of the joint interface in the course of heat cycle process during processing or in practical use. |
