The coloring matter is blended with a raw material for cakes such as Mochigashi (bean-jam cake), Yokan (sweet jelly of beans), dried cake, etc., and soft drinks such as carbonated beverage, fruit drink, etc., to prepare colored cakes or soft drinks. The red- based dyestuff can be easily extracted by immersing the rice or the seed coat part in an alcohol, water, etc.
