PURPOSE:To enhance the corrosion and wear resistances of a magnetic metallic storage body, by introducing SiH4 and a gas contg. C into plasma so as to coat the specular surface of the storage body with an amorphous SiC layer. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a substrate 1 of an Al alloy or the like for a magnetic disk or the like is finished to a finely undulated surface having <=50mum in the circumferential direction and <=100mum in the radial direction by mechanical working, and the surface is plated with an Ni-P alloy to form a base body 2 finished to a specular surface. The body 2 is plated with a Co-Ni-P alloy to form a metallic magnetic medium 3, A protective film of amorphous SiC is formed on the medium 3 by introducing a gaseous mixture of SiH4 with C2H4 or the like into plasma. Thus, the corrosion and deterioration of the magnetic metallic film 3 in the environment are prevented, and the wear resistance is enhanced. |
