<p>To improve chip extraction, and in particular the removal of chips remaining in the mortised groove, a mortising machine having a dust-extraction device (10) with a suction opening (11) surrounding the cutting tool comprises a second suction opening (25) which can be applied to the workpiece (7) in the region of the mortised groove (8) during operation. A deformable object, in particular a brush (28), penetrates the groove (8) and restrains the chips at the exit from the groove (8).
