Appts. comprises a support frame, a carriage mounted for reciprocating motion on the frame, means for reciprocally moving the carriage, a cutter mounted rotably on a support on the carriage, a driving mechanism for rotating the cutter, a guide plate fastened to the lower part of the frame and over which fabric moves, and a transport belt moving under the guide plate. The guide plate has a straight cutting edge, and the cutter has a number of cutting edges distributed over its periphery for cooperating with the guide plate in order to subject the fabric to a shearing operation. A press. mechanism is provided for bringing the cutting edges of the cutter in shearing contact with the straight cutting edge of the guide plate when the cutting edges approach this edge. Prod. is esp. useful for cutting rubberised fabric for tyres, providing a correctly exercised shearing operation which cuts the fabric without deforming it. |
