<p>A process and a device are useful for metering the air during idling and coasting in an internal combustion engine. During idling, a PI regulator (203, 204) regulates the internal combustion engine on the basis of a set engine speed. At the same time, the volume of air (60) required is measured and stored in a memory (304). During coasting, the air flow rate is regulated on the basis of this stored value.
