In a method for rapid image acquisition in NMR experimentation, preferably of the SSFP type, multiple-echo gradient sequences are used. From one echo to the next, the spatial encoding magnetic conditions are modified 24. The spatial encoding modifications preferably relate to a Z axis along which the required resolution is smaller, or along which the dimension of the volume to be examined is shorter. It is shown that the acquisition method allows great time savings, and makes it possible to overcome the psychological impatience threshold between the start of one NMR experimentation and the display of the first acquired images. <IMAGE>
