The invention relates to a method and a system for cleaning dirty deposits from the surfaces of an object. The method is characterised in that a quantity of a liquid cleaning product 13, such as alcohol, is heated to boiling point at a place separate from the object 9 to be cleaned and the product is caused to run over the dirty surface under the action of the heat by which said quantity of product is being boiled, for long enough to clean said surface. The invention can be used for cleaning pipes. <IMAGE>
