PURPOSE:To contrive to printing time, by locking pinch rollers against rotation, thereby clamping an ink ribbon therebetween at the time of a returning operation in which a thermal head is separated from a paper together with the ink ribbon and is moved toward the lower printing position side. CONSTITUTION:When a carriage 3 is returned after printing to the highest printing position is finished, a cam block 21 is turned clockwise by driving a status switching motor 12, whereby a thermal head 7 is separated from a paper together with an ink ribbon 8, whereas a pinch roller 9 approaches a driven pinch roller 10 and is locked, thereby clamping the ink ribbon 8 therebetween. Then, the carriage 3 is moved toward the lower printing position side, and the ink ribbon 8 is slippably taken up at a higher velocity, whereby an unused part of the ribbon 8 is paid out while preventing the ribbon 8 from slacking. Thus, printing with high quality can be performed, and a shorter printing time can be contrived. |
