PURPOSE:To enable adequate recording density to be obtained with the first image signal for printing without reduction of recording rate by supplying the first application power which works short of printing regardless of the presence of characters to be printed at the time of its performance, and supplying further to the second application power to only a heat generating element corresponding to an image signal for printing. CONSTITUTION:A pulse generator 4 which receives a printing start signal j generates a pulsed signal h, and this signal is given to a non-recording head 1 as an energization control signal for a heat generating element. The pulse width of the pulsed signal h is previously set to a width that an application power Pa to be applied to each heat generating element works but is not adequate to start printing. When a control part 6 supplies the printing start signal j to the pulse generator i, the pulse generator 4 generates a pulsed signal is and this signal i is applied to a thermal recording head 1 as an energization control signal for the heat generating element. The pulse width of the pulsed signal i is previously set in such a width that it becomes an application power Pb which is large enough to allow the heat generating element preheated by the above-mentioned application power Pa to reach a temperature at which recording paper develops color without fail. |
