In known corded fabrics for pneumatic tyres, the weft threads have, before the impregnation of the fabric, a finite length which is greater than the width of the fabric. The overlong ends are guided back into the fabric at both ends. During dipping, these beaten-back ends are retracted substantially on account of the shrinkage of the weft threads, but often not completely, so that the overlong ends of the weft threads lead, in the edge region of the corded fabric, to thickenings of the latter, so that the corded fabric does not have a uniform thickness over its width. In contrast, the new corded fabric is to be uniform over its width and, in particular, have no thickenings in the edge region. In the new corded fabric, the overlong ends of the weft threads are provided alternately along one longitudinal edge of the fabric and the other and are guided back into the fabric, whilst the other ends of the weft threads do not project and are laid back. This avoids thickenings in the edge region of the corded fabric in the event that the overlong ends are not retracted into the fabric completely as a result of the shrinkage occurring during dipping.
